Mighty Mule welding and fabrication repair in San Antonio typically runs $220 to $480 installed, depending on whether we’re rebuilding a hinge mount, re-welding a cracked gate bracket, or fabricating a replacement part that Mighty Mule no longer stocks. We carry the steel stock, weld wire, and jigs on our trucks to handle most Mighty Mule fabrication jobs in one visit, and the same crew that welds it also tests it under full opener load before we leave. The way most San Antonio owners find us is simple: the gate starts dragging on one corner, the opener strains and beeps, and when they look close they see the metal around a hinge or the post mount has torn or cracked through. That’s the part that failed, and it’s almost never a part you can order from a catalog.

Which Mighty Mule Models This Applies To
This work applies across the Mighty Mule lines we see in San Antonio driveways every week: the older FM series (FM350, FM500, FM502), the MM series (MM260, MM360, MM371W, MM571W, MM572W), and the current Mighty Mule smart openers like the MMK371W and MMK572W. The welding and fabrication work usually isn’t on the opener itself. It’s on the gate the opener is bolted to: the hinge plates, the post bracket where the piston or arm mounts, the opener’s mounting tabs, or a cracked weld on the gate frame that’s letting the whole thing flex and bind.
Here’s the Mighty Mule-specific gotcha we see all over San Antonio: those bolt-on mounting brackets that ship with the kit are fine for a light tube gate, but on a heavy ornamental iron gate or a wood gate with a steel frame, those brackets will eventually tear the metal around the bolt holes. That’s not an opener failure. It’s a fabrication failure. And Mighty Mule doesn’t sell a heavier bracket for most of their residential kits, which is why we fabricate reinforced mounting plates in-house. If you call us, we’ll ask for the model number off the control board sticker and the measurement between the opener’s mounting ears. That tells us whether we’re patching or replacing before the truck even rolls.
One more thing worth saying plainly: Warden Gate Repair San Antonio is an independent gate and opener service company. We are not affiliated with Mighty Mule, and we don’t pretend to be. What we are is factory-trained on nine major gate brands, including Mighty Mule, and we stock OEM Mighty Mule parts plus quality aftermarket steel stock for the fabrication work the OEM parts list doesn’t cover.

Signs Your Mighty Mule Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate sags on the latch end and scrapes the ground or the catch. Almost always a hinge weld or hinge plate that’s tearing away from the post or the gate frame. The opener is pushing against a gate that’s now levering off its mounts, which makes the motor work twice as hard.
- The opener mount has visible cracks around the bolt holes, or the bolts keep loosening no matter how many times you tighten them. This is metal fatigue. On a Mighty Mule residential kit, the thin bracket is done, and the fix is a thicker fabricated plate, not another turn of the wrench.
- The gate shudders or hops when it starts moving. A broken weld on the gate frame lets the whole structure flex under torque, which transmits straight back through the piston or arm and into the opener’s gearbox.
- You hear a sharp pop or creak when the gate changes direction. That’s a weld or bracket moving against the metal underneath it. It only gets worse, and in South Texas heat-thaw cycles it gets worse faster than you’d think.
- The post the opener mounts to is leaning or has cracked at the base. This is the big one in San Antonio, where clay soil swells and shrinks and steel posts set in concrete still work loose over time. The post has to be cut, replated, or re-welded before any opener work is worth doing.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s what Mighty Mule welding and fabrication typically costs installed in San Antonio, written the way we’d quote it over the phone:
- Hinge rebuild or hinge plate fabrication and re-weld: $220 to $340 per hinge set, depending on gate weight and how much of the old metal has to be cut out.
- Opener mounting bracket reinforcement or custom bracket fabrication: $180 to $280, including trimming the old bracket, cutting and drilling new steel, and welding it in place.
- Cracked gate frame weld repair: $180 to $380, depending on how many cracked joints we’re chasing and how much grinding the old welds need before we can lay new ones.
- Gate post repair, plumb and re-set, or base re-weld: $300 to $480, because the post usually has to be cut free, cleaned, re-set, and the gate re-hung and re-tested under opener load.
- Full custom fabrication job (replacement frame section, offset mount, or hinge relocation): $450 and up, quoted in writing after we measure on-site.
Every one of those numbers includes the parts, the welding consumables, the grinding and cleanup, and the labor. Before any work starts, you get a written price with the line items broken out. No surprise charges at the end. And if the weld or the fabrication we install fails within the first year, the return visit is free under the 365-Day Done Right Promise. That’s the whole deal, in writing, every time.

What drives the range
Gate weight is the biggest variable. A light chain-link gate off a residential driveway in Castle Hills is a different welding job than a heavy ornamental steel gate in Terrell Hills or a long farm gate off Highway 16. How much of the old metal is still sound matters too. Rust, previous patch jobs, and how long the gate has been running out of alignment all change the hours. We’d rather give you a tight number than a vague one, which is why we ask for photos or a quick look before the truck rolls.
DIY or Call Us?
If you want to check something yourself before calling, here’s what’s safe: look at the hinge bolts and the opener mount bolts with a flashlight. If you see cracked metal radiating out from a bolt hole, or a weld that’s pulled away leaving a gap, that’s not a bolt-tightening problem. You can wipe the area down and take a clear photo for us. What you shouldn’t do is fire up a homeowner-grade welder on a gate that’s under opener tension, or grind and patch a cracked post while the gate is still hanging. A gate that weighs four or five hundred pounds can come down hard if you cut the wrong thing. We’ve also had to re-do more than one driveway weld that looked fine on the outside but had no penetration, which is why the metal cracked again within a month. This is the trade Cole Rafferty learned at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College and has been doing for close to two decades since, and we’d rather do it right once than fix a mistake twice. Call (940) 531-3336 and tell us what the gate is doing. You’ll get a real person, a straight answer, and a written price before we start.
FAQs
A properly welded gate hinge or bracket repair on a residential gate in San Antonio should last 10 to 15 years or more, assuming the gate is maintained and the post stays sound. The bigger threat here isn’t the weld itself. It’s the clay soil shifting posts, and rust forming at the weld joint, especially near sprinkler overspray. We grind to clean metal, weld with the right rod or wire for the steel we’re joining, and treat the finished joint. Every fabrication job we do is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise, and if it fails in that first year, the return visit is free. Call (940) 531-3336 for an exact quote, and we’ll tell you what your particular gate needs.
Yes, and on Mighty Mule gates that’s usually the right call. A cracked hinge plate or a torn opener mount bracket is steel, and steel can be ground back, re-welded, and reinforced. We’re not in the business of selling you a new gate when a fabrication repair will hold. Where replacement makes more sense is when the metal is rusted thin across a wide area, or when the part that failed has already been welded once or twice before. If we can save it, we’ll show you why. If we can’t, we’ll show you that too, with photos.
Most Mighty Mule welding and fabrication jobs in San Antonio take us 2 to 4 hours on-site, including cutting out the bad metal, prepping, welding, grinding, and re-testing the gate through full open and close cycles under the opener. A hinge rebuild on a lighter gate might be done in 90 minutes. A full post re-set with fabrication work can push into a half day. We’ll give you a time window when you call, and we don’t leave until the gate cycles correctly and the opener isn’t straining.
We stock the steel plate, bar stock, square tube, hinge hardware, and welding equipment on our San Antonio trucks to handle most fabrication work the day we arrive. For Mighty Mule-specific hardware we don’t fabricate in-house, like control boards or receiver modules, we stock OEM parts for the common Mighty Mule series and also carry parts for other major brands we service, including LiftMaster, Ghost Controls, and DoorKing. If your job needs something we don’t have on the truck, we’ll tell you before we start, and you’ll still get the written price before any work begins. Call (940) 531-3336 and we’ll check stock for your exact model while you’re on the phone.
