LiftMaster Keypad & Intercom Repair: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide

We stock and install LiftMaster-compatible keypad and intercom replacements across San Antonio, with most residential keypad swaps running $185 to $320 installed depending on the model and wiring condition. Intercom and telephone-entry repairs typically land between $240 and $480 when the wiring is intact and we’re swapping the unit rather than chasing a buried line fault. Most keypad jobs are done the same visit; intercom work may need a second trip if the problem is in conduit or the master station wiring.

Here’s how most San Antonio owners discover the failure: the keypad lights up but the gate won’t move, or a guest calls from the street and the intercom rings once and dies, or the screen on an older LiftMaster telephone-entry panel has gone dim and unreadable. One day it works, the next it doesn’t. Dry, hot summers and our occasional hard freezes are rough on the membrane keypads and the small ribbon connectors inside these units. The good news is that most of what fails is replaceable, and we carry the common LiftMaster parts on the truck.

Which LiftMaster Models This Applies To

We service the LiftMaster keypad and intercom families installed on residential and light-commercial gates around San Antonio, including the KPW250, KPW5, 377LM, 387LM, and 877MAX wireless keypads, along with the wired KPR2000 and legacy LiftMaster telephone-entry and intercom panels that are often paired with gate operators like the LA400, LA412, and LA500 series. If you have a LiftMaster gate operator and a keypad or call box that talks to it, the chances are very high we carry or can source the exact part.

The identification step matters more than people expect. LiftMaster has sold keypads and intercoms across decades, and not every unit labeled “LiftMaster” speaks to every opener. Older 377LM keypads run on a red/amber learn button; newer 877MAX keypads use the yellow learn button and a different frequency. An intercom panel wired for a LiftMaster telephone-entry system won’t simply bolt onto an operator that was never configured for an external call station. Tell us the model number from the sticker inside the keypad battery compartment, or send a photo of the intercom face, and we’ll tell you what fits. We’re an independent San Antonio service company, not affiliated with LiftMaster, but our techs work on these units daily and know which boards, keypads, and wiring harnesses match which generation.

Signs Your LiftMaster Keypad or Intercom Is Failing

  • Keypad lights but the gate does nothing. This usually means the keypad is transmitting but the opener’s receiver board isn’t hearing it, or the keypad lost its programming after a power blink. We see this often in San Antonio after summer thunderstorms knock out power to the opener and the keypad’s memory doesn’t recover.
  • Buttons work sometimes and not others. The membrane contact layer beneath the keys is wearing out. Humidity, sunscreen, and years of finger oils degrade that layer, and once one key becomes intermittent, the rest follow within months.
  • Intercom rings the house but you can’t hear the caller, or vice versa. This is almost always a corroded or crushed wire between the call box and the house, or a failed audio amplifier board inside the intercom. In San Antonio’s clay soil, shifting ground around the conduit entrance is a common cause.
  • Keypad survives winter but quits in August. Direct sun on a black keypad in a San Antonio summer pushes surface temperatures well past 150°F. The cheap aftermarket keypads fail within one or two summers; the OEM LiftMaster housings last several years longer because the plastics and UV stabilizers are different.
  • The intercom display shows garbage characters or stays frozen on boot. The LCD controller board is failing. This is the sign owners wait on too long, assuming it’ll clear up, and then one morning the whole panel is dark and the board is beyond economical repair.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For a LiftMaster wireless keypad replacement on a San Antonio residential gate, expect $185 to $320 installed. That range covers the part cost, the programming of your access codes, testing the keypad against the opener at least a dozen times, and hauling away the old unit. If the keypad is wired to a long driveway run, the price can push toward $400 if we’re also replacing degraded low-voltage wire between the house and the gate.

Job Typical San Antonio Installed Range
LiftMaster wireless keypad replacement (programmed) $185 – $320
Wired keypad replacement with new low-voltage cable $280 – $420
Intercom or telephone-entry unit replacement $240 – $480
Intercom microphone / speaker / board repair $160 – $280

Every quote is written down before we touch a tool. You’ll see the part cost, the labor line, and the final installed number on paper, and that’s the number you pay. No truck fee disguised as a “diagnostic” after the fact. The work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the keypad or intercom repair fails within a year, we return and make it right without another invoice.

DIY or Call Us?

Battery swaps and code changes on a working keypad are owner-safe, and we’ll happily walk you through those over the phone. Reaching inside an intercom panel or keypad housing is a different story: these units carry low-voltage but live terminals, and a short against the metal gate frame will fry the receiver board on a $900 operator just as fast as a lightning strike. We’ve seen more San Antonio homeowners turn a simple keypad replacement into a full opener board replacement by crossing two wires than we can count.

If the keypad is cracked, the buttons are soft, or the intercom crackles, call us at (940) 531-3336. Tell us what it’s doing wrong. We’ll tell you what it costs to fix it, in writing, before we start.
