We stock and install Ghost Controls-compatible welded gate components and fabricate replacement brackets, hinge mounts, and frame repairs for San Antonio homes, with most jobs priced between $180 and $520 installed. Same-day service is available when we have the part on the truck, which covers roughly 80% of Ghost Controls repairs we see. Most owners discover the problem when their gate starts sagging toward the latch side, makes a grinding sound mid-travel, or the opener strains against a frame that has twisted out of square after a few Texas summers.

The way we usually find a failed welded component is simple: the gate still opens, but it doesn’t open right. It hesitates. It drags. The Ghost Controls operator keeps working because it was built to push through resistance, but the hinge plates or the welded bracket that connects the arm to the gate is quietly tearing itself apart. By the time you hear metal-on-metal, the weld has already cracked through.
Which Ghost Controls Models This Applies To
Ghost Controls builds residential swing gate openers, and nearly all of them attach to the gate through a welded or bolted bracket assembly. The models we service most in San Antonio are the Ghost Controls TSS1, TDS2, and the AXP1 solar-compatible kits, but the bracket geometry is similar across their single and dual actuator lines. The part that fails is rarely the opener itself. It is the weldment that connects the actuator to the gate post and the gate frame.
Here is the compatibility gotcha we run into regularly: Ghost Controls actuator brackets are drilled for specific mounting patterns, and a bracket from a TSS1 will not line up cleanly on a TDS2 without re-drilling or shimming. We fabricate brackets to match the exact bolt pattern on your actuator, because forcing a mismatched bracket is how welds get stressed in the first place. If your gate is a custom wrought iron or steel tube design built by a San Antonio fabricator, there is usually no OEM bracket that fits it at all. That is where our fabrication work replaces guesswork with a bracket cut, drilled, and welded for your specific gate.
On the OEM versus aftermarket question: Ghost Controls does not sell a large catalog of replacement weldments for custom installations. Their factory brackets work fine on standard steel tube gates, but the moment your gate is ornamental, oversized, or built heavier than the actuator was specced for, aftermarket fabrication is the only real fix. We use schedule 40 steel and 7018 welding rod for brackets, which outlasts the thin factory stampings by a wide margin, especially with San Antonio’s heat and humidity cycling.
This applies to the full Ghost Controls swing gate lineup we service, along with parts we also stock for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and DoorKing systems where bracket geometry overlaps.

Signs Your Ghost Controls Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- Gate sags visibly toward the latch post. The top hinge weld has stretched or cracked, letting the weight of the gate pull the leaf downward. You’ll see a wider gap at the top of the latch side than the bottom.
- Opener labors or stops mid-cycle. A cracked bracket changes the pivot geometry, so the actuator has to work harder at one point in its travel. The Ghost Controls board senses the load and may stop or reverse.
- Metallic creaking or popping when the gate moves. That sound is the weld flexing at the crack line. A healthy weld is silent; a failing one announces itself every cycle.
- Loose actuator arm at the gate connection. Grab the arm where it meets the gate and try to move it by hand. If there is slop, the bracket hole has wallowed out or the weld has snapped free on one side.
- Rust staining or paint flaking at a joint. San Antonio’s humidity gets into a cracked weld seam and starts rusting from the inside out. Rust weeping from a joint means the crack has been there longer than you think.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For Ghost Controls gate bracket and weld repairs in San Antonio, plan on $180 to $320 for a single bracket replacement when we can reuse your existing mounting points. Full hinge re-welding with gate realignment runs $250 to $450. A complete custom bracket fabrication for a non-standard gate, including cutting plate to match your bolt pattern and finishing, lands between $320 and $520. The range comes down to three things: access to the hinge side (fences and landscaping add labor), the weight of the gate leaf (heavier gates need thicker stock), and whether the post itself is still sound or needs a repair plate.

Every job includes the written price before we start, the labor to remove and replace the part, and cleanup of weld splatter and grinding marks. We repaint the repaired area with rust-inhibiting primer and satin black. The work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the repair fails within a year, the return visit is free. You’ll know the technician’s name and see their photo before they arrive, which is the whole point of how we operate.
DIY or Call Us?
If you want to check a suspect bracket without touching a welder, you can do two things safely: inspect the welds for visible cracking with a flashlight, and test for play in the actuator arm as described above. That tells you what is wrong and gives you something concrete to describe when you call. What you should not do is attempt to weld a cracked bracket while it is still on the gate. Gate hinges and actuator brackets are under constant load, and a weld made without properly supporting and realigning the gate leaf will fail fast, and can drop a heavy gate on someone. The spring tension on a sagging hinge assembly is also nothing to take lightly.
If the weld has already cracked through, call us at (940) 531-3336. We’ll remove the part, fabricate or weld the replacement on the bench where it can be done properly, and reinstall it with the gate back in square.
FAQs
A properly fabricated and painted steel bracket on a Ghost Controls gate in San Antonio should last 8 to 12 years before the weld or the steel itself shows meaningful fatigue. Factory brackets on heavier custom gates often last half that. The two things that shorten bracket life here are the humidity-driven rust cycle and gates that were built heavier than the opener was rated for, which loads the bracket beyond its design.
Sometimes yes, if the crack is in the weld bead and the surrounding steel is still sound, we can grind out the bad weld and re-weld it. If the steel itself has torn or the mounting holes have elongated, replacement is the better fix. We’ll tell you which one applies and give you the written price before anything gets touched. Call (940) 531-3336 for an exact quote, and the estimate is free.
Most Ghost Controls bracket replacements and weld repairs in San Antonio are done in two to four hours on site, including grinding, welding, and repainting. Custom fabrication for a non-standard gate adds a day because we cut and drill the bracket in the shop first. We’ll quote the time along with the price, in writing, before we start.
We keep the common Ghost Controls TSS1 and TDS2 bracket patterns on the truck, along with plate steel and welding equipment for same-day fabrication. If your gate is a custom San Antonio build and we need to match an unusual bolt pattern, that is a bench job and we’ll have it ready the next day.
