BFT Keypad & Intercom Repair: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide

BFT keypad and intercom repair in San Antonio typically runs between $240 and $680 installed, depending on whether we’re replacing the keypad membrane, the intercom board, or the entire unit. Most jobs are completed in one visit because we stock common BFT replacement parts on the truck. The way owners usually find us is pretty consistent: the keypad stops responding to button presses, or the intercom audio goes scratchy and quiet, and suddenly the gate only works from a remote that’s still sitting inside the house.

We’re Warden Gate Repair San Antonio, an independent gate and opener specialist. We are not affiliated with BFT, but we service their equipment daily and keep genuine and quality-matched aftermarket BFT parts on hand for same-day repair across San Antonio.

Which BFT Models This Applies To

BFT has built several keypad and intercom lines over the years, and the compatibility details matter more here than with almost any other gate part. If your BFT system is a DKS-style flush-mount keypad or a surface-mount unit wired into a BFT control board, we can match it. The most common BFT access control pieces we service in San Antonio are the BFT MITTO keypads, the BFT Q60 and RIGEL intercom panels, and older BFT City and Clonix series keypads that are now discontinued but still running on plenty of San Antonio driveways.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha most people don’t know: BFT keypads communicate with the gate board using two different protocols depending on the age of the system, and they are not interchangeable. A keypad from a 2008 BFT system will not talk to a 2020 board, even if the wiring connector looks identical. Before you order any keypad online, check the silver label on the back of the existing unit for a model code that starts with “D” followed by a number. We match that code to the board’s firmware version. That’s the difference between a repair that works for years and one that fails again in a month.

For the intercom side, the RIGEL line is still readily available, and quality aftermarket equivalents exist for the audio handset. But on the keypad side, we lean toward genuine BFT parts because the weather sealing and button travel on aftermarket keypads rarely hold up to a San Antonio summer. We stock both, and we’ll tell you honestly which is right for your situation.

Signs Your BFT Keypad & Intercom Repair Is Failing

  • Buttons need to be pressed hard or multiple times. The conductive membrane inside the keypad wears out over time, especially on units mounted where afternoon sun beats on them. This is the most common BFT failure we see in San Antonio, and it’s almost always a replacement, not a cleaning.
  • The keypad beeps but the gate doesn’t move. That means the keypad is alive but the signal isn’t reaching the board. It’s usually a failing relay in the keypad or a broken wire at the hinge where the gate flexes. We test both before quoting anything.
  • Intercom audio is full of static or one side can’t hear the other. BFT intercom panels use a small speaker and microphone that degrade with humidity and dust. San Antonio’s combination of heat and occasional heavy rain accelerates this. The fix is usually a module replacement, not a whole new panel.
  • Codes randomly stop working or need reprogramming often. The keypad’s memory chip is failing or the board battery is dead. If you’re reprogramming the same code every few weeks, the unit is telling you it’s near the end.
  • The keypad face is cracked or the numbers have worn off. Once the face seal breaks, moisture gets inside and corrosion starts. A cracked faceplate on a BFT keypad in San Antonio is a replace-now situation, not a patch-it situation.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what BFT keypad and intercom repair costs in San Antonio, installed, with the part and labor together:

Repair Type Typical Installed Price
BFT keypad membrane or faceplate replacement $240 – $370
BFT keypad full unit replacement (surface-mount) $380 – $520
BFT intercom audio module repair $290 – $450
BFT RIGEL intercom panel replacement $480 – $680
Keypad-to-board wiring diagnosis and repair $160 – $280

The range depends on which BFT model you have, whether we need to pull new low-voltage wire from the keypad to the board, and whether your existing mounting box can be reused. Every job gets a written price before any work starts, and you’ll know the total before we touch a tool. The repair is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it fails within a year, we come back and make it right at no charge. That’s in writing, every time.

DIY or Call Us?

There are a couple of things you can safely check yourself before calling. First, confirm the keypad has power: is there a faint backlight or a beep when you press a button? Second, check that no wire is visibly loose where the keypad mounts to the pedestal or wall. Those two checks take five minutes and help us diagnose faster over the phone. Beyond that, this is where DIY goes wrong. BFT keypads and intercoms operate on low voltage, but the gate board they connect to carries voltage that can damage the board if a wire is shorted during testing. And pulling a keypad off its mount without the right sequence can break the tamper switch or rip the ribbon cable. We’ve replaced more than a few BFT boards that were fried by a well-intentioned homeowner probing with a multimeter.

If the keypad is dead, cracked, or doing something intermittent, call us at (940) 531-3336. Tell us what it’s doing wrong, and we’ll tell you what it costs to fix it, in writing, before we start. That’s how Cole Rafferty runs every job.
